How did it all begin?
Ah, a surprisingly simple question, yet full of nostalgia! It all began in 1992, when young Albert spotted his chance to make a mark on the world of fashion. We don't mean a wild-beaver fur coat or a dress sewn from sparkling diamonds. Albert, born and raised in a family of knitwear makers, had an extraordinary obsession.
Can you guess what it was?
HATS.
As a representative of the second generation that passionately creates hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, warmers, sweaters and snoods, Albert realised that hats are so much more than an ordinary piece of clothing. For him they were a form of expression, a way of life, a kind of winged horse knitted on a knitting machine, on which he could conquer the world.
How many of you can boast that you started your career by carding sweaters at just 7 years old?
Albert, full of determination, said: "Why not?" And so the adventure with hats began.
While on holiday in Masuria, Albert enchanted his future wife, Róża. Together they had three children, and their home became Bałuty in Łódź. When they decided that their family was complete, they longed to create something new together. And so the idea for BerryBoat was born.
And what now?
At BerryBoat we are a family – not only Albert and Róża, but also our three wonderful (ahem… little monsters), that is, children who are growing up alongside our idea for the company.
BerryBoat is a slightly unusual name. But how could you not love the name of our daughter, Jagoda (Blueberry)? Albert was determined to repeat the story of Mercedes, without a shadow of a doubt. And as for the "boat"? Łódź (which means "boat" in Polish) is a place we love and that is home to us. Hence the boat in our name – we are BerryBoat, the only hat maker in Łódź that puts love for detail into its products, keeping in mind the comfort of our customers of every age.
We are not just a hat maker. We are creators of magical knitwear that can turn the most ordinary day into a real adventure. From 5 to 150 years old – everyone will find something special here. Our products are not just pieces of clothing – they are companions for winter adventures, from an exciting snowball fight to quiet afternoons spent on the sofa with a mug of hot chocolate.
We understand that each of our customers is different, which is why we make our hats from a variety of materials – from high-quality acrylic to delicate alpaca. And of course, colour! Who wouldn't want to wear a hat in an intense shade of grandma's beetroot or a blue reminiscent of Uncle Józef's painting attempts?
BerryBoat is more than hats. It is the story of a family that loves what it does and shares that love with others. Above all, it is us – Albert, Róża and our children – who strive every day to make every hat special, just like the person who wears it.
